Red Slider is a novel for independent readers aged 7-10, with most children being at the optimal level for reading Red Slider in late third grade through early fourth grade. It is also an ideal book for parents and teachers to read to younger children who are not yet ready to read Red Slider alone.

While Red Slider is an adventure story first and foremost, it also includes the following:

1) lessons about the power of friendship and the value of finding the courage to do what's right

2) light-handed insights about the relationship between the human world and natural ecosystems

3) tidbits of nature and wildlife information
