Blair Hickson Riley is a college professor with training in the
behavioral and life sciences. As a child, she wrote dozens of
short stories and as a young adult she wrote poetry. In 2004 she
started writing fiction for children, studying first with Elizabeth Ann
Sachs and then Jean Fritz at the
Hudson Valley Writer's Center in Sleepy
Hollow, NY. She continues to develop her writing through her
participation in writing groups, including
Write On!.
Red Slider will be Riley's first published
work, but she hopes that many more will follow. Of the four novels
that Riley has completed to date, all take place against the backdrop of
the forest. Raised in the mountains of upstate New York, she still
spends time every summer hiking, swimming, and canoeing in the Green
Mountains of Vermont and the lower Hudson Valley of New York.
